The CVMLab has been active in the Department of Electrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering of the University of Pavia since 1970. The group, initially engaged in research activities focused on image enhancement and restoration techniques (in particular medical imagery), later focused on more advanced image processing functions, involving scene segmentation and shape characterization. In 1980 a new stream of research has been started in the field of parallel architectures for vision and image processing. Later, the group has developed skills in high-level image processing domains, such as the management of knowledge description and learning capabilities for vision tasks, as well as social media analysis. Current research activities focus mainly on Computer Vision, Eye Tracking, Digital Humanities, 3D modeling and Deep Reiforcement Learning, integrating traditional techiniques with the most recent advancement in Artificial Intelligence.
