Curriculum vitae

Research Fellow and Scientific Officer at the Joint Research Center of the European Commission (21020 Ispra, Italy), where I work in the Nuclear Safeguards unit.

Researcher at Fondazione Bruno Kessler (ex Istituto Trentino di Cultura), IRST (TeV), 38100 Trento, Italy. I participated in the DIPLODOC project for an intelligent vehicle: I was involved in the design of the vision-based road segmentation and obstacle detection systems.

2000 - 2003

PhD student at the Computer Vision Lab at the University of Pavia (Italy), in a co-tutoring European program with the Laboratoire AXIS of the Institut d'Electronique Fondamentale at the University of Paris XI. Advisors: Virginio Cantoni and Bertrand Zavidovique. My thesis is centered on adaptive vision systems with application to intelligent vehicles and to video sequence analysis.

1994 - 2000

Master degree in Electronic Engineering at the University of Pavia, with a specialization in Integrated Optoelectronics. The final project was about integrated waveguides and it was carried out at the University of Glasgow.
I was also a student of the Collegio Ghislieri in Pavia for 5 years, and an Erasmus student in Glasgow, UK in 1998.

My main interests cover computer vision and image processing, cognitive vision, context-driven analysis, representations of static and dynamic context for image understanding, statistics, Bayesian decision theory, sensor fusion, applications to intelligent vehicles and videosurveillance. Serving as a peer reviewer and guest editor for international journals. Main co-author: Bertrand Zavidovique.

Annual award 2004 for the best PhD thesis assigned by the Italian Association for Artificial Intelligence (AI*IA).
