Eye-S is a system for pure eye-based communication (allowing both text and generic commands input).
Eye-S is conceived for users who cannot move, and therefore need alternative input methods rather
than those based on keyboard and mouse. Using an "eye gesture" approach, the user creates alphabet
letters, as well as punctuation marks or commands definable according to the particular application
to control, by means of sequences of fixations on nine predefined screen areas. Compared to other
eye writing systems, such as those based on virtual keyboards, with Eye-S the screen can be totally
free for the display of applications, since there is no need for specific graphical input
interfaces.
A paper on Eye-S, by Marco Porta and Matteo Turina, has been presented at the 5th Symposium on Eye Tracking Research and Applications (ETRA 2008) in Savannah, GA, USA, March 26-28, 2008.
You can also download the presentation prepared for the conference, which includes some videos (Windows executable file, 11.2 MB).
